Permanent Diaconate
It is possible that God is calling you to a special Ministry?
It gives me a great pleasure to offer a few words of encouragement to those considering a vocation to the permanent diaconate. To be a deacon is a specific call from God to be a minister of charity in word and deed. Our Lord, on the night he was betrayed, washed the feet of his disciples and invited them to do the same. They were to be like Christ who came to serve rather than be served. This life of charitable service is fundamental to the mission of permanent deacons in the Diocese of St. Catharines. Through the Sacrament of the Holy Orders, permanent deacons join with the priest and bishop in making Christ present in our world today. If you feel that God may be calling you to be a permanent deacon, then I ask that you contact Deacon Gunther Eyer at the Catholic Centre.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Gerard Bergie, D.D.
Bishop of St. Catharines
