The Felician Sisters who were founded by Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska in 1855 were mainly involved in education on all levels.

In 1953, five Felician Sisters became pioneers in Catholic education in Crowland (present day Welland). They were invited to teach at Sts. Peter & Paul Elementary School by Fr. Stanislaus Puchniak, OMI, who was one of the initiators for the establishment of the separate school board and the first Catholic school in Welland. The sisters staffed Sts. Peter & Paul Elementary School from 1953-1979.

Since then they taught at the following elementary schools: St. Mary, St. Andrew and Holy Name, Welland; St. Ann, Fenwick; St. Pius X and St. Jospeh, Stevensville; St. John Bosco and St. Thdrese, Port Colborne; Assumption of Our Lady, Our Lady of Fatima, St. Alfred, St. Nicholas, St. Denis and St. Joseph, all in St. Catharines. In the Niagara region the sisters also staffed St. Vincent de Paul, St. David, George Vanier and St. John Fisher schools.
